Elise Huard
After her studies in metallurgy, Elise realized job in that area were not her cup of tea, and she looked for jobs in an earlier interest, software. Since then, she's been rolling through jobs in C, C++, Java, a masters in AI, 5 years of ruby development, first as a freelancers and now for a company in London called Forward. 12 years of software have given her a fairly cynical view on methodologies in general and a grasp on what works in software development.

Data driven development
As developers, we can participate to this process in many ways, and benefit from it. How can we use data to decide what to develop next? How can we extract meaningful patterns from the data we own? Not only that, but gathering meaningful data for reporting becomes an implicit requirement of every new application.
Development and business have a much closer relationship and vision, in the fact that developers need to be aware of business metrics, so that they can optimize the application, using data, in a meaningful way.
